A very common consequence that comes with driving under the influence in Colorado is having your driver’s license revoked. In Colorado the legal limit for blood alcohol content is 0.02% for persons under the age of 21 and 0.08% for those 21 and older. If someone is pulled over and their blood alcohol content is above the legal limit or if they refuse to take a test that measures their BAC, their license will be revoked.

Colorado State Law does not tolerate drinking and driving. The consequences are very serious and those who are driving under the influence are not welcomed on the road for quite some time. Colorado has the Express Consent Law. This law basically states that anyone who is driving any vehicle in Colorado has given their Express Consent to take a test to measure their BAC when asked by an officer when there is probably cause.

If someone is given notice of license revocation by a police officer, they have seven days to request a hearing from the Colorado driver’s license office. Consult with an experienced DUI attorney when you receive this notice immediately. The DMV hearing is not only critical to your driver’s license, it is also an important part of the underlying court process.

If/when someone who has a DUI is finally eligible to have their license reinstated, they will need to apply and test for a brand new Colorado driver’s license. If it is a driver’s first DUI offense, sometimes they may be eligible for early reinstatement with the installation of an interlock system into their vehicle. The interlock system requires the driver to test their breath before the ignition is started in the vehicle. If someone is facing DUI charges, they need to get in contact with an experienced DUI defense attorney as soon as possible.
